Week 1 Blog 1

    My name is Madeline, and I grew up in the small town of Ashby Minnesota. I am currently in my second year of college at NDSU, and my major is radiology. I chose to major in radiology because I want to work in the healthcare field, but I also do not want a super demanding job. I specifically want to specialize in sonography because I want to do imaging on pregnant women. I don't think that I would enjoy radiography as much as sonography because radiography is basically just taking the picture and then sending it off to be looked at by specialists. I want my job to be more hands on and involved which is also another reason why I chose to go the sonography route. The program at NDSU for sonography is very challenging and competitive because they only accept around 4-5 students each year for the internship. You also can only apply to the internship twice, so if you get denied twice, you have to pick another route to go. I am a very determined person, and I am going to do my best to make sure that I get accepted into the program. 

    Some of my hobbies include shopping, hanging out with friends and family, and watching movies. My favorite season is fall because I love the cool weather and the beautiful colors of the trees. My favorite holiday is Halloween because I love scary movies and everything else that comes with Halloween. I love to go to haunted houses and haunted corn mazes too. I also love to read books and that is one thing that I have been doing all summer long. I like that in the summer I don't have school classes to worry about or textbooks I have to read, so I like to enjoy books of my choice. I had a lot of fun this summer spending time out on the lake and that is something I will really miss when summer is over. I also love animals and I have two cats and a dog living at home. I miss them when I am here at school, but it is always so fun to visit home and see how excited they are to see me. A fun fact about me is that my birthday is on April Fool's Day. On my birthday, I am always getting teased, and people like to trick me because that is the day I was born. Although I get tricked a lot, I like that my birthday is on April Fool's.

 Book Shopping - Buy These Books I have always enjoyed reading and I would love to share some of my favorite books! When I was younger, I enjoyed reading mystery and thriller books, but now I also enjoy reading romance books. You have probably heard of the author Colleen Hoover, she went viral this year on Tik Tok with some of her most well known books. She is one of my favorite authors and I am very excited to share some of my favorite books written by her. The very first book I read of hers, and is one of my all time favorites, is "It Ends With Us". This book is an emotial rollercoaster of emotions as the main character struggles with love and what she deserves. Hoover just finished a second book to this book and was just released a couple days ago and I am looking forward to reading it! Another one of Colleen Hoover's books that went viral this year was "Verity". This book is more of a thriller and had me on the edge of my seat the whole time I was reading it

One of the course objectives for this course is to "Effectively communicate analysis, knowledge, understanding, expression and/or conclusions." Prior to taking this course, I would interpret this in the form of a paper. I originally thought that we would learn these skills and practice these skills by writing different kinds of papers throughout the course, but I was very wrong. Throughout the course I have seen myself using these techniques in ways other than papers which has helped show me that I will need these skills when I graduate and enter my field.  For example, I have analyzed many different classmates work through the discussion board and effectively communicated what I thought about their work to them. I used my analyzing skills when reading their work and taking it apart to understand what they are trying to communicate to their readers. Week 7 Blog 1

 I decided to sit in one of my classes and try to relax, sit still, and absorb everything around me in that moment. I was not able to focus and sit still for long because I felt that there was so much commotion going on around me involving the other students. When I was sitting still and focused, I noticed that the classroom can be loud when the professor is teaching something. I heard so many sniffling, on top of coughing, on top of keyboard typing, on top of papers flipping, on top of people moving around in their seats, etc. I noticed that there is so much going on involving noises that it was hard to give all of my attention to the professor.      I realized after doing this that I do the same thing in class. Lots of the times, us students are distracted by other homework or just not paying attention at all.
